Christmas has started!

Today Christmas preparations at the Friends for Felix household are truely underway. Today is the launch of our christmas decorations on Facebook and I have finally made a christmas gift list! While cleaning up the garden on the weekend I found an old palm tree seed pod which I thought would make a wonderful christmas decoration. I have used it to display our christmas decoration range here at Friends for Felix. I am considering spray painting it white and using it in our house this Christmas. We always have a real Christmas tree in a pot but our last one died (ops forgot to water it!!) and it will look very special decorated with our handmade items.
A more modern take on Christmas
Traditional red, green and white

I have continued to experiment with the sewing machine and have created a very cute angel garland. This was inspired by one that I found in a Woman's Weekly Christmas cookbook which had some yummy christmas treats that I will be making this December. I decided to create mine out of felt and christmas cardstock - two of my favourite things!
I am pretty happy how they have all turned out. The cardstock has little santas on the other side so but the red is my favourite.

Last year when pregnant I had so many people tell me how it would be the last of the handmade gifts I would create as this Christmas I would be busy with my bubba. While I am super busy, creating handmade gifts is something that is really important to me. I have been doing it for as long as I can remember. I know that gifts are extra special if someone has taken the time to create it themselves. It is something that I want our son to continue on as well as he gets older so I am leading by example. This year I am going to create handmade christmas cards, yummy baked christmas gifts and the added special pieces that I create through Friends for Felix.

Well I am off to start on our Christmas orders followed closely by cutting out cardstock for some Christmas cards!

Orders and pricing of our Christmas range can be obtained through our facebook page www.facebook.com/forfelix or my emailing us at friendsforfelix@gmail.com.

The chaos continues

Things have been chaotic at the Friends for Felix household for the past couple of weeks. We have had our little man's first two teeth come through = grumpy baby and sleepless nights, the passing of my beautiful grandfather who I was quite close to and came quite unexpected, the dreaded flu, the house being in a constant state of mess and dirty washing, ah it seems to be a bit of a never ending list at the moment. I am really looking forward to things getting back to some kind of normality. For all of these reasons not a lot of craft has been done over the last couple of weeks. All I feel like doing is some sewing as I find it so relaxing but have been too exhausted and lacking time to do so.

I am currently working on a order for Miss J and experimenting with some different fabrics for the wings of Octavious Owl, but have not quite found anything that I am happy with.

I have given up on trying to get a complete Christmas range out at the one time.  I have finished some super cute tree decorations that I will launch tomorrow and the other pieces will be added as they are complete. I love doing our Christmas shopping and usually by this time of year my Christmas list is complete and presents have started piling up in the spare room - well not this year! Our Christmas shopping complete is my goal for November. I have decided that this year I am going to support all things handmade and am going to use www.madeit.com.au and www.etsy.com for the majority of my Christmas shopping. I would rather support a local artisan to continue their craft and give some truely unique gifts.

Until tomorrow.

Mobiles

Due to a lack of sleep caused by colds and teething, Friends for Felix has been busy resting this weekend so our Christmas range is yet to be finished. I thought that this would be the perfect time to showcase some of our mobiles.

Creating a mobile for our little man was really the start of Friends for Felix. I wanted something unique and special to hang over the change table. I had searched through baby stores looking for a mobile but they were all so expensive and lacked heart. To be honest our mobile has yet to be hung above the changetable instead it gets moved around the house. Somedays it gets pegged to the end of the ironing board (clearly when not in use!) but most of the time it is on the clothes airer. It keeps him amused while I wash the dishes and he has a good wiggle on the floor.

He does a great job of testing out our new work before they get sent to their new homes. He just loved 'Lily Owls' a custom order created.

 'Sweet Tweets'

 'Up and Away'

A favourite of our little mans is this plane mobile

'Flower Power' our most recent mobile creation

Orders can be placed by emailing friendsforfelix@gmail.com.

Late night felt tales

It is about this time most evenings that I will be updating this blog. Like a lot of parents with small children, I am waiting for my little man to drift into a deep sleep before heading back to bed myself. There is nothing worse than getting settled into bed only to be woken 5 mins later. I am constantly amazed with what I can get done at this time of an evening - washing folded, my kitchen table cleared of the junk that has accumulated on it, paperwork sorted, topics googled and most importantly patterns designed and cut for Friends for Felix. I am currently cutting Christmas shapes in an attempt to have a day of sewing on Friday. It has taken me longer than expected to finish our Christmas range - things have been busy around here with our little man's first tooth cutting yesterday and having house guests this week so it has been lots of fun spending time with them. Hopefully by the weekend I can post a sneak peak of our Christmas range before its launch on Facebook.

It sounds like someone is fast asleep. Time for this mum to do the same. I think that this time of an evening will be a perfect time to update what is happening at Friends for Felix and life in general. My apologies in advance if this blog does not always make perfect sense, remember it is probably 3am!

A little introduction.

This is our first attempt at blogging. Here it goes!

I thought that it is about time that we introduced ourselves to you!

Friends for Felix comprises of one Mumma and one bubba, with a very supportive Daddy helping out around our place. This all started as I wanted some handmade toys for my son, and needing a creative outlet for myself I thought I would try my hand at some felt toys and mobiles. Craft helps with my sanity, even though a lot of the time I am busy cutting and sewing, entertaining my little man and doing those boring jobs like washing all at the same time (Mummas are so clever!). I am hoping that this blog is a place where I can share my thoughts on being a mum, new projects that we are working on here at Friends for Felix and some cool things I find along the way! Enjoy!
